Challenges and objectives

Nottingham City Transport has been using Facit’s video redaction software, Identity Cloak, since 2020. With 14 cameras per bus – it needed software which would dramatically reduce the time it took to process an SAR, but it also needed to be cost-effective to meet budget requirements.

Previously Nottingham City Transport used software provided with the recording system. This was very time consuming, and the team had to redact frame by frame. This meant it took approximately a week to complete each SAR.

Geoff Shepherd, CCTV Supervisor at Nottingham City Transport stated “failing to comply with GDPR can be quite expensive, and failure to comply just isn’t an option for us.”

Nottingham City Transport needed software which:

• would dramatically reduce the time it took to process an SAR

• be cost-effective to meet budget requirements

Results

Nottingham City Transport now redacts a video in less than a day.

The team found the change over from the old system to the new system was very quick due to how easy the software is to install. The team stated that the software is simple to operate, and it is so intuitive that members of staff can use it more less straight away.

Over the years, the Nottingham City Transport team has provided Facit with feedback which has supported the development of the product, and attended our “How to” webinars which have been greatly received.

The team has tested several different facial recognition systems, and found that Facit always comes out on top.
